Bucking the trend of the Bird & Co office being a hive of productivity, Wednesday afternoon was given over to slightly more fun proceedings (what could be more fun than programming websites I hear you say!)
In an effort to make the most of what could have been England’s last game, we moved all the furniture about in Craig’s office, got some friends round (finance from upstairs), got some drinks on the go (tea and cola before anyone asks) and settled in to watch the big game, England v Slovenia.

Craig's office
To add an extra dimension to what, based on the previous performances, could have been a boring draw, Craig had devised a devilish plan/game.
He introduced it as Food heaven or Food hell, then we all had to pluck an England players name from a hat.
There were groans as players like Cole and Rooney came out. They were bound to garner plenty of black marks against themselves which would mean the B&C team member would have to eat a forfeit food.
But as so many of these things turn out, it was Brian that ended up pulling the short straw. Glen Johnson, while keen, just couldn’t keep out of trouble, and soon racked up a good number of forfeits for Brian.

Oh No Glen!
Some of the forfeits were worse than others though, with some of the team relishing the thought of tucking in to some savoury “treats”! Chillis, gerkins and olives were all on the (red) cards, but the undisputed worst was the dreaded pickled egg.
I was fortunate enough to have picked Defoe, the only goal scorer, so avoided any of the forfeits.
Come the final whistle, we were all pretty confident the England team had done all they need to, but there was confusion when the USA scored in the last few minutes of their game with Algeria, putting USA top of the group.
Now we are all looking forward to the next game on Sunday against Germany.

Yum, pickled egg....

Vicky loves a gherkin
The group stages have had knocked lots of the flags off our monitors in the sweepstake, the biggest casualty being Faye who has lost all three of her teams. Against all odds, Vicky is still in with a chance with Ghana!
