Race for Life

The birds of Bird and Co are putting on their running shoes and dressing head to toe in pink in the hope of raising money for Cancer Research. Yes that’s right, on the 13th June we will be attempting to complete the three mile race for life in Worcester! Vicky, Faye and I will be training over the next 9 weeks so we can hopefully complete the 5km run without stopping! I think this is going to be a fairly big challenge for all of us as none of us claim to be Paula Radcliff!

After signing up we sat down to think about how we could make us look more of a team amongst the other participants. Our first idea was to dress up for the occasion in huge horse costumes, but after deciding to run it we thought costumes weren’t the best idea. Another thought we had would be to do a three legged race (although with three of us it would become a four legged race!) this too holds a whole host of issues, the main one being that poor Faye has much shorter legs than Vicky and I and therefore would struggle to keep up with us. Also with it being in the afternoon, the chances of us completing it before night fall, all tied together are very slim.

With 9 weeks until the actual event we have decided we had better get training. What with living in different towns and cities and with hectic busy schedules it’s going to be very difficult to actually train together. However we are hoping to go for a run at least once a week together after work (weather and schedules permitting) and then individually we have to motivate ourselves to get training.

I will be going to the gym four times a week and will go for runs at the weekends and in the evenings when it gets lighter. Faye will continue to run around after her 3 year old who always keeps her active. She will also be running to and from her Tai Chi lessons at the weekend and will be swimming more often too. Vicky currently plays netball and will also be going for runs after work. As long as we keep motivated we will get there in plenty of time so that we can run the race with ease and comfort (we can only hope anyway!)

Now to make this all worthwhile we have to kindly ask for your help to sponsor us. We hope to raise at least £500 between us so please dig deep and sponsor us! Seeing the total rise on our sponsor page will spur us on to train even harder so please give generously to this worthy cause.

I will be posting updates of our training regularly so watch how we progress over the next nine weeks!
